Afghan Shindand

Afghan Shindand carpets are knotted in the town of Shindand, situated in the Herat province of western Afghanistan.

The carpets are some of the most visually striking Afghan carpets and are characterized by their bright, bold colours and geometric designs. They can be distinguished from other Afghan carpets due to the depiction of human and animal figures. This is very rare for Afghan carpets in general as Islam tradition forbids the portrayal of human and animal forms. Most Afghan carpets tend to feature geometric patterns and designs.

The carpets are made of natural dyes derived from plants and minerals and the wool is locally sourced from sheep that graze in the rugged landscapes of western Afghanistan.
